WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Here's a look at what's happening in White Plains this week:
Monday
- City Hall and the library will be closed Monday in observance of Presidents Day.
- The Royal Hanneford Circus is bringing tigers, acrobats, elephants, a human cannon ball and trapeze stars to the county center this weekend. Showings will be held at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets cost $28.50 or $22.50 for adults. For additional information call (914) 995-4050.
Tuesday
- The planning board will meet in City Hall at 7 p.m. Public hearings will be held about Jay Fuller's application to build an addition on the back of his 706 Ridgeway home and a proposed four-lot subdivision at 1020 Hall Ave. The board will then discuss an application for a 30-unit building on Lake Street, Sunoco service station's plan to expand on Post Road, and Kol Ami synagogue's proposition to reconfigure its parking.
At the library:
- The library is hosting a Mardi Gras mask making craft session for third to sixth-graders from 11 a.m. to noon.
- Robert the Guitar Guy will play songs for children 3-years-old and older with a caretaker. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes before the 11 a.m. event begins.
- Galaxy Hall will play "The SMURFS" for children from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.
- The library will organize a "February"-themed trivia game based on the television show "Jeopardy" for those in grades two through six from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Wednesday
- S.C.O.R.E. of Westchester is offering a free course on things to consider before opening a business at 1 p.m. at the Department of Labor at 120 Bloomingdale Rd.
- The Kensington has invited cardiologist Roger Cappucci to discuss how to ways to improve your cardiac heath from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees must register for the free seminar by calling (914) 390-0080.
At the library:
- Children 4 and 5-year-olds are welcome to attend an "All Aboard Trains" story and activity at The Trove. Tickets will be given out half an hour before the 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. readings.
- The Anime Club will watch a movie and enjoy snacks at the library from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
- Galaxy Hall is hosting a birthday celebration for George Washington featuring stories, trivia, jokes, games and refreshments. Third through sixth-graders should arrive 30 minutes prior to the 4:30 party to get tickets.
- The Trove will hold a "Tea Party" story time for families who wish to wear pajamas, bring a stuffed animal, and enjoy a bedtime snack. Tickets will be given out 30 minutes before the 7 p.m. reading.
- The library is holding an Internet Explorer basics class from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m.
Thursday
- The conservation board will convene in City Hall at 8 p.m. to discuss a proposal to allow Koi Ami synagogue to reconfigure its parking lot and modify its interior, and Jay Fuller's application to add a one-story addition to his Ridgeway home. The board will also deliberate on the French-American School of New York's application for a special permit to build a school on the former Ridgeway golf course and the Salvation Army's proposed expansion plan.
At the library:
- Adults speaking English as a second language are invited to converse at the library from 2 to 3 p.m.
- Galaxy Hall is holding a silly singalong for three-year-olds and caretakers from 2 to 2:30 p.m.
- Kindergardeners through second graders are welcome to attend a "Story From Africa" reading, snack, and activity. Tickets will be given out a half an hour before the 4:30 p.m. activity.
